Every Child is Capable of Learning Maths

March 21, 2023 by Steph Leave a Comment

In most cases, children that find Maths difficult do so as they see it as a monster that sucks their creativity out of them or they just pick up ‘bad vibes’ from others. But let’s face it. Maths provides some fun activities for both children and grown-ups. We use it everywhere, every day, from calculating money to negotiating with vendors. Every child is capable of learning Maths.

Here are some tips that can help you effectively teach your children Maths:

Use Everyday Objects

You can use what is around you to begin teaching your child Maths. Start with simple items like fruits, buttons, trees, cars, pennies, and drinks cans. Using everyday objects will make learning more relatable and as such, easier, Your child will be able to learn and remember easily. You teach your children by having them count edible items and reward them when they get the answers right.

Make Flashcards

Flashcards are effective teaching tools as they provide a visual learning experience. Great flashcards can be made at home. For instance, if your child doesn’t remember what the numeral three looks like, you can grab a card, write the numbers one to three on each card, and draw the corresponding number of objects each number represents. Flash the cards one after the other until your child remembers what the number looks like.

Play Maths Games

Maths games will enable your child to have fun and also enable them to grasp mathematical concepts more easily. Such games mainly use addition, subtraction and multiplication. To make learning more interesting and accessible, teach your child a variety of Maths games.

Use Worksheets

Worksheets provide a range of learning activities for children of all ages. The best worksheets feature a structured approach that enables children to practice foundational skills in this area of learning and natural problem-solving techniques. Cazoom Maths offers a range of worksheets customised for every level to make learning more fun. You can use as many worksheets as you need to facilitate daily practice.

Use Activities

You can organize several activities within your home to teach your children different Maths concepts. To make it fun, you may invite their friends. For instance, you can give your children a bucket and tell them to fill it with different items like balls. After that, ask them how many items they have used to fill the bucket. Integrate different concepts like addition and subtraction in those activities.

Use Video Lessons

Not all children have the same capacity for understanding. Some can grasp mathematical concepts very quickly, while others need to revise the concepts several times. Consider visual lessons if your child needs extra time to grasp the concepts. With video lessons, your child can play, pause and rewind as often as needed.

This way, your child won’t have to wait for the teacher to ask questions. Many children hesitate to ask questions. Video lessons are engaging, making it easy for a child to understand the concepts.

Conclusion

Well, Maths can be a straightforward subject if well taught. With the above strategies, you can easily make your child love the subject. For an effective learning process, consider changing strategies if need be because one strategy may be monotonous and boring. Teaching your child Maths early in the morning or when the child’s mind is fresh is recommended. Mathematics is a lifestyle, practise it, live it, and don’t shy away from asking questions like, are negative numbers rational?
